EEOC Launches New Website

EEOC just launched a new website, aimed at

youth. This website aims to educate young workers about discrimination, what it is, and what their rights and responsibilities are. If you like to answer quizzes, you will also find one of those to take at this website.

EEOC appears to be pushing very hard on the issue of discrimination against young workers; this website even has a special section that lists recent discrimination cases against young workers. Most of the cases listed involve harassment.

If you are an employer with many young workers, you may want to review some of these issues with your managers and supervisors!

Harassment in a workplace with many young workers is a major area for concern.

Certainly young workers may be less aware of their rights and more easily victimized by older authority figures. Not to mention sometimes making attractive targets in a physical sense.

But there is also another factor: young workers' social environment outside work (filled with sexual references, foul language, etc.) and life status (single, available, and on the prowl).

This factor makes it more likely they will engage in workplace speech and conduct that may either genuinely be perceived as harassing by a peer or may be used by an opportunistic peer who is well aware of EEO rights to create a credible charge, even if it was not personally offensive.
