Are we truly shameless? (Well I did like the Garth Brooks song of that name)
The 2005 Business Blogging Awards are now open for voting. Lots of categories and for some reason we're nominated for "The Chris Pirillo Award (For Shameless Self Promotion)."
So here's some shameless self-promotion: Vote for us here.
Why that category?
You tell me. I think I'm pretty humble, but maybe that doesn't come across in this blawg.
Otherwise, all I can think of is that the name of the Blawg uses my own name (as does Chris Pirillo's and Dennis Kennedy's, and Scobleizer's among others) (note the links promoting other bloggers equally shamelessly!).
I can explain it simply. I certainly hope for crossover impact on my firm (especially when I finally complete the new website), but the other attorneys do not participate in and rarely read this Blawg.
When I established the name, I knew this would be a solo effort, at least for a while, and wanted to make clear it was my blawg, not a firm product.
The personal name also gives some deniability to anything I say that they don't like ("opinions expressed are solely those of George and Michael and do not necessarily reflect the views of any other person or any organization with which they are affiliated")
Finally, the name reminds me that good blogs are personal (i.e., communicate some individual personality).
But enough of being defensive about the category. Being a shameless self-promoter, I must subscribe to the theory that there is no such thing as bad publicity.
